Read Rene LaChance’s Life Story and Donate Today!

Rene, 67, is the son of the late Jean LaChance, a diesel mechanic in Salinas, California. Rene learned how to turn wrenches at an early age and bought his first truck at the age of 17 yrs old, sub hauling dirt and tomatoes. He started LaChance and Sons Trucking in 1983, hauling primarily decorative rock for landscaping. He sold the business in 2003 and two years later started Frenchy’s Motor Service in Red Bluff.

On a trucking job in July 2017, Rene was helping a friend out of his truck when both slipped and fell out of his truck. Rene ended up paralyzed from the neck down. Two years later, on his way to a physical therapy appointment, Rene and his caretaker were involved in a traffic accident that broke Rene’s neck and back.

Though Rene is now able to walk short distances with assistance, years of medical expenses have taken toll. He requires in-home care 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and needs special equipment to get in and out of bed. Still, Rene had not lost his enthusiasm for life, or trucks.
